I have this printer/scanner and it was wonderful when new. Many
things still work fine. I don't print much and after a spell of not
much use, I find that it has horizontal banding on all documents.
I've done everything in its built-in maintenance - cleaned print
heads, addressed (non-existent) vertical banding issues, tried the
(useless!) help site online, sent a message to their tech support
scheme - no joy. Last week I was helping a friend with something.
She has the same printer and also doesn't print a lot. She needed to
print a clear photo for copyrighting an item she hopes to set up in
business making and guess what - horizontal banding!!!

Anybody else had this problem with this printer/got any ideas of how
to overcome it? Know who we could both contact.

In my case, the shop where I bought it went out of business months ago
and the printer is over a yr old anyway. My friend will be able to go
back to the shop where she bought hers.

Its not what you want to hear, but many people would not touch Epson ink
jets with a ten foot pole. They clog up, give banding and are generally
unreliable unless you use them every day.

I have two just printers, not combo in a cupboard and nobody wants them even
for free!

Maybe someone else out there knows the problems which seem to dog these
items, when people like Lexmark and HP seem to be fine even if you leave
them for months!

Yep, you're right, Brian, not what I wanted to hear at all :(

I'll think very carefully before buying my next one!

Thanks

If you can get access to the printhead, buy a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol BP
(this is a constituent of ink tanks & is used to help prevent the ink from
clogging), some cotton buds & a syringe from a chemists.

Soak a cotton bud in the IA & repeatedly dab it on the face of the
printhead, to see if it will dissolve any blockages there.

If that fails, & you have a spare empty tank, inject it with IA & attempr to
print until the blockage.

Epson always do good when reviewed by the professionals in Which? and
Computer Shopper but I prefer Canon as well for inkjets. This Epson Aculaser
C1100 was not much more expensive than an inkjet, prints real photographic
pictures and precise text.

I would never go back to an inkjet again, anymore than I'd go back to a dot
matrix printer now that I've experienced Laser printers.
