Anyone know where I can get some of those paper lanterns that float away
like mini hot air balloons?

TIA.

I'd ask someone getting ready for Chinese New year next month, myself.

The emergency services are currently very pissed off with the idiots
who launch these lanterns.

Well I imagine they are, but the Chinese will fill the air with them on
Valentines day, no doubt.

Then the ufo reports will roll in as usual.

There actually seems to have been a flurry of UFO reports since it was shown
on the news recently - the survivors of the tsunami launching paper lanterns
to remember the victims.

Of course THAT bank advert has also got in on the act, so the lanterns are
likely to become a bit of a novelty fashion.

When I was at boarding school I used to scrounge a supply of string from one
of the teachers and plastic film from the kitchen (Clingfilm wasn't invented
back then).

When the wind really got howling, I'd make action man sized parachutes with
a stone as ballast, and hurl them as high as I could so the wind whipped
them away.

The headmaster soon banned this activity as there had been complaints about
considerable damage in the village a few miles down the road.
