They forecast a "barbeque summer" - all it did was rain.

They forecast a "mild winter" - we got the biggest freeze for 30 years.

They forecast 20cm of snow for South England on Sunday - already the news on
the radio is pointing out it failed to materialise.

Maybe the bunch of clods at the met office should look for a new line of
work.

Thank God for that I say nothing like a drop of rain without
it you would be the first to moan when we got our water rationed
I only hope this summer is the same .

It will all be gone in a matter of days plus I would sooner have it
like this than temperatures going over 100F you can always turn
up the heating you cannot turn the sun off, my central heating as been
going none stop for the last week.

Maybe you should be grateful it didn't instead of coming here shouting
your mouth off, weather forecasting isn't an exact science the weather
can change in a matter of hours

Maybe they should take notice of you and close the met office down at
the same time then when we get ships sinking at sea etc due to there
being no weather warnings we can all blame you for the seaman's
deaths.

You're the one shooting your mouth off about shutting the Met office and
killing all the sailors.

I only suggested that the useless bunch that work there now should find some
other line of work that they can't balls up - something like shelf stacking
or burger flipping perhaps.

I would like to see you do better our weather is ALWAYS more or less
what the met office says it will be . How do you get your forecasts
via the BBC if yes then it is they who should be got rid of like the
other 99.9% of the rubbish they transmit every single day. If you
require an accurate forecast for your area ring the office direct I do
.

weather forecasts from the same Met office.

Then why do the TV forecasters say one thing and the London met office
say something different ? , London met told me at lunchtime that we
would have rain here in Holmfirth to night and we have, all the silly
bitch on TV at 15:55 said it would be cold and frosty again here
!!!!!!!!.
Many's the time last summer last thing on a Saturday night the TV said
it is going to pour down all day Sunday and Sunday turned out to be a
very warm sunny day after I had canceled my usual outdoor activity on
summer Sundays thanks to the BBC's lamebrain forecasters.Which is why
now I call the London met office has I have found their predictions to
be more or less 100% aacrate

Or better sofftware. Interestingly the so called amateur forcasters often
wheeled out in BBC local radio were much more accurate with this current
weather.

The trouble is that we (I) don't know which weather forecasts use the Met
Office data. I find that putting my postcode into weather.com gives me at
least as good or better forecasts than eg. bbc.co.uk.
Is that because they interpret the same data better or use different
sources of data?
I do know that the National BBC forecasts for where I live are almost
always wrong and the local ones little better.
How is it that they pretend to forecast the next day's weather then change
that forecast an hour late? It would seem the only one worth having is the
next one.

Yes, there does seem to be a bit of confusion. I suspect the reason for some
stations using locals is that there have been many times when the official
line has been wrong.

I suppose a local person could be said to have local records to fall back
on, so if a situation exists he or she has seen before and was wrong by the
experts before, local knowledge would suggest it ought to be modified.

As for on line ones. Which ones are purely textual?

I tend to look at the pressure charts and make my own mind up. I find
it is more accurate than the BBC forecasts.

The rising and falling barometer is as good as anything, but it cannot tell
snow from rain, nor how long it will last.

That's why pressure charts are useful. The fronts show where there is
most likelyhood of precipitation. Predicting whether it's going to be
snow or rain is more difficult though.

It seems strange the BBC getting so much criticism, Five weather frequently
show a weather map with not a cloud in sight - I look outside and there's
heavy overcast all the way to the horizon in any direction and torrential
rain.

I don't know where they get their info, but they'd only need to look out the
window to see its wrong.
