Hi,
I purchased an audio receiver ( on line) in April this year and yesterday it
went bang and smoke came out of it! Its got a guarantee but I am unsure as
to if there is a specific expectation that I should receive a replacement
owing to the short span of time the receiver has been owned. It was not
involved in any accident etc.
Any ideas? tia.
Stuart.

The retailer can either repair it and return it to you, or replace it with a
new unit.

Well, I think you stand a good chance of a replacement. Without more details
its hard to know. If its from a auk vendor you ought to be covered and if
its not been mistreated, one could suggest faulty manufacture.
Having rights and actually getting them can be a problem of course, when you
cannot go wrong there and bang on the table if they seem reticent...

Hi,
Thanks for your comments. I have actually asked about the "integrity" of the
receiver and whether it should be replaced and not repaired. Its not like it
just had a little fault but actually blew something which caused smoke to
emerge from it that bothers me. It was not mistreated or involved in any
accident whatsoever.
Its an audio visual receiver which compliments my surround sound speakers
and cost me £900!
I am awaiting reply from the supplying shop that sold it to me.

FWIW
- - I finally had to "accept?" the dealers arrangement for repairing my
receiver. They implied it was not "their" decision but also gave me the
impression they were just messing me around - - -emails ignored etc and
blaming the repair agent for the receiver (Onkyo 875) not answering their
phone.
They even emailed me saying it would be replaced but of course that didn't
happen and I don't think they ever intended to
There has been no indication of what the fault was even though it put the
wind up me what with banging and smoke coming out of it and I have asked!
I had been without my receiver since 13th December and just got it back
yesterday.
The dealer said they were sorry for the "inconvenience" and "we can offer an
excellent deal on any other item of interest in future and will soon be
selling some of the best plasmas and projectors available if you have
considered an upgrade." That seems to be an insult of a pretty low type so
be warned- - they may be great at selling you stuff but try getting some
fair treatment after you have forked out over £1200 with them.
AUDIO AFFAIR is the name "Affair" sums them up well!
Never deal with them again!!
