Post by Brian GaffBut disabled people want an end to the cuts in their benefits and services,
one cannot have both.
There's lots of sectors where cuts are being made that I disagree
with. Libraries, schools, youth clubs and family benefits, for
example.
Post by Brian GaffI would however love to see how much of the tax
revenue is sheer waste on unproductive beaurocracy.
That is where the cuts should be made.
Don't hold your breath. Almost all governments promise savings this
way and few (if any) actually manage it. The current government's
cuts in quangoes is a "good" (i.e. bad) example since it won't
actually save anything.
If they really wanted to do something useful they need to end the tax
loopholes that allow multi-billionaires to avoid tax and also to
collect the backlog of tax that is still owing. Letting large
companies off paying tax because they ask nicely is a no-no too.
Personally I'm not against a rise in fuel duty if it prevents
unnecesary journeys. So many people drive their kids a short distance
to school, for example.
And I would prefer the burden of taxation on motoring to be shifted
from ownership to usage.
