Apparently Morrisons has fallen out with the brewery that made their oen
brand best bitter - great pity it was an excellent beer and I'd have liked
some for the holidays.

Anyone know the name of the brewery or the name of a comparable beer?

Thanks.

It was brewed by Cains, so presumably one of their beers would be closest.
But they're not that common in supermarkets outside the North West, so you
may have difficulty finding some if that's not where you live.

Having said that, Cains also do an own-brand beer for the Co-op (Co-op Best
Bitter), so if there's one of those handy then try that instead.

Thanks - a couple of leads I can follow.

The Brewer is Cains, they made their bitter and lager. You may have some
luck by emailing them.

Finding a comparable taste from Joe Public may be tricky, as no 2 people
seem to agree with one another:-

Thanks - I've filled the enquiry box on Cains website and will investigate
the local Co-Op as Mark suggested.

Otherwise its shop around for what's cheap and hope its not as revolting as
the Boddingtons Tesco were flogging cheap last year.

Ah, I didn't see Mark's post, either my news-server or nreader seems to
delay posts for about 4 hours!!
I must admit, Morrison's do a wide range of ales and lagers these days. I
brew my own from whole grain and hops. I use one of those £15 fermentation
bins (you get in the homebrew shop), a plastic tap and a circular perforated
plate (from a steamer).
One of the CAMRA authors has a paperback with over 100 recipes. Here's how:-
http://www.genre.fsnet.co.uk/brewery/bitter/index.html
Huge improvement over kit beer. I'm still learning, lots of patience
required.

Morrisons probably have among the best selections, but nothing to equal the
now absent best bitter, everything else is a lot more expensive and/or a
minefield of widget beers that are usually revolting.

If I brewed my own I'd be permanently inebriated - although it would
probably become self limiting at some point!
