Post by Harry DavisWhere in England can you buy a 4 bedroom house with at least 1 acre of
land, for £250k? Excluding in areas which are
* really run down, or
* very low-lying and dependent on electrically powered drainage
* next to a nuclear power-station.
Is there anywhere?
Cumbria, Northumberland, parts of Yorkshire, Cornwall (outside the
touristy bits), Staffordshire moorlands, places like that. If you're
prepared to accept a box room as a bedroom then you can even get one

Hi Mark and thanks for this.
In Cambridgeshire, there are quite a few places, but all the ones I've
found have been in the Fens (such as the one in Wisbech St Mary that you
link to) - failing criterion 2!
Looked at Cumbria; could only find places which were fairly run-down, such
as around Nenthead - failing criterion 1.
I love many parts of Yorkshire, but so far have only found places in low-
lying areas at risk of flooding, e.g. practically on the banks of the
Humber. Haven't seen anything in the right price bracket in the Dales.
Staffordshire and Cornwall sound great. Could you be more specific? I've
looked in West Penwith in western Cornwall - a lovely area - and found
nowhere. There are some places around Bude and Holsworthy (the latter being
in Devon), but very close to Morwenstow and microwave EMR, so in the same
category as living next to a nuclear power station!

other environmental nasty
:-)
Thanks again!
Harry
