Today I attempted to purchase a new tax disc at the post office. This
was refused by the clerk who informed me that insurance certificates
printed from the Internet were not acceptable.

Being a (hopefully) sane individual at the time the insurance was due
I shopped around before finding the cheapest deal with a company that
provided online (not printed) documentation.

I have since been able to pay the tax online with the DVLC
automatically confirming the car's MOT and insurance in a few seconds.
I find it unacceptable that I was not able to tax a legally insured
car at the post office as I have done for many years. Surely the
internet is the technology of the future and I suspect many others
will be insuring online, it seems the post office has not yet joined
the 21st century.

Pity we can't all return to the 20th century not quite so many
mistakes made by people messing around with computers back then .

Even though they sell broad band internet connections. Sounds like a local
cock up to me.

The PO is *for* those who've not yet joined the 21st century. Those who have buy
their tax discs online and have no need for the PO.
